Feedback on the summer 2012 examinations: GCSE Science A, Additional and Separate Sciences (combined course)

If you didn't manage to attend a face to face session in early autumn, our online courses may suit your needs. This course will enable you to gain a better understanding of GCSE Science, in light of the examination series this summer and is led by John Scottow (Chair of Chemistry).

This BLISS Excellence web conference will give you the chance to explore:

  • student responses and commentaries from the summer 2012 exams
  • how to manage and mark aspects of controlled assessments with student responses and commentaries
  • new Quality of Written Communication (QWC) questions, with student responses and commentaries
  • command words such as 'evaluate' and 'explain'
  • up to date information on how the move from modular to terminal examinations will affect science specifications
 

Feedback on the spring/summer 2013 examinations: GCSE Science A, Additional Science, Biology, Chemistry and Physics

We are running face to face courses at locations throughout the country. We are also running some online courses for those of you may find this more convenient. This course will enable you to gain a better understanding of GCSE Science, in light of the January 2013 examinations. The biology course is led by Sara Welsh Chair of Science, chemistry by John Scottow Chair of Chemistry and physics by Elaine Parr Principal Moderator for GCSE Science A.

This BLISS Excellence course will give you the chance to explore:

  • student commentaries from the January 2013 exams
  • how to manage and mark aspects of controlled assessments with student responses and commentaries

You will received a full pack of materials including Science A, Additional Science, Biology, Chemistry and Physics.

 

Feedback on the summer 2012 examinations: GCSE Science B

This 2 hour live web conference will enable you to gain a better understanding of GCSE Science B, in light of the summer 2012 exam series. In addition this course will provide guidance and teaching strategies to help you to enhance your students´┐Ż learning experience and maximise their potential to succeed in the examination.

This BLISS Excellence web conference is led by Michelle Oldfield our Principal Examiner for GCSE Science B and will explore:

  • student responses to the assessment of knowledge in Units 1–3 and QWC exemplars
  • the impact of different question types on student performance
  • the controlled assessment – issues arising with student responses and centre assessment of each strand
